Global biennials canceled or postponed due to coronavirus pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation or postponement of numerous international art biennials, triennials, and quadrennials scheduled for 2020. The 22nd Biennale of Sydney closed after just 10 days and moved online. Glasgow International was postponed to 2021 with a digital edition from April 23 to May 10. The Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art was postponed, with organizers exploring alternative ways to present works by 48 artists. The Venice Architecture Biennale was rescheduled from August 29 to November 29, 2020, then postponed to 2021 (May 22 to November 21). Dak'Art in Dakar was postponed. Sonsbeek 20→24 in Arnhem was postponed to 2021. Manifesta 13 in Marseille was rescheduled for August 28 to November 29. The Helsinki Biennial was postponed pending summer feasibility. The Berlin Biennale closed its ExRotaprint space until April 19. The Liverpool Biennial was postponed to 2021. The São Paulo Biennial was rescheduled from October 3 to December 13. La Biennale Paris was postponed to September 2021. The International Biennale of Casablanca remained scheduled but under monitoring. The Biennale de Lyon was postponed from 2021 to September 2022. The Venice Art Biennale was postponed from 2021 to April 23–November 27, 2022. The Yokohama Triennale and EVA International in Limerick had no announced changes as of the report.
