Global art dealers expand networks despite economic fragility

market-auction · 2026-04-23

The art market worldwide is on the rise, with significant new galleries emerging in major cities. On February 24, Spruth, Magers, Lee debuted at 12 Berkeley Street in London, occupying 350 square meters. Established by Simon Lee alongside two German partners, the gallery seeks to address the void left by D'Offay, featuring works from artists such as Cindy Sherman and Donald Judd. Lee emphasized the necessity for vibrancy in London. Next year, Larry Gagosian is set to launch a 3,000-square-meter venue in London, while Yvon Lambert will unveil a 450-square-meter gallery in Chelsea, New York, in May, spotlighting European artists. Additionally, in September 2002, Claudia Cargniel inaugurated Cosmic Galerie in Paris, a 900-square-meter contemporary art space.
