Glenstone Museum expands with new Pavilions and green spaces
On October 4, 2018, the Glenstone Museum located in Montgomery County, Maryland, will unveil new exhibition spaces and visitor facilities. Established in 2006 by art collector Mitchell Rales and art historian Emily Wei Rales, the museum harmonizes art, architecture, and nature. The expansion features Pavilions, a 7,000-square-meter structure comprising 13 unique spaces linked by natural corridors, along with two dining venues, a welcome center, and a bookstore. More than 500,000 square meters of green space will showcase sculptures from the museum's collection. Notable architects involved include Peter Walker of PWP Landscape Architecture, Charles Gwathmey of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, and Thomas Phifer and Partners. The collection boasts over 200 artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Andy Warhol, with new additions like Louise Bourgeois and Roni Horn. Mitchell Rales emphasized the goal of providing free access to a cohesive experience of art, architecture, and landscape.
