Glasstress 8½ Returns to Murano and Arsenale for Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-04-26

In the initial days of the 60th Venice Biennale, Glasstress 8½ is unveiled by Fondazione Berengo and Berengo Studio, under the curation of Umberto Croppi. This exhibition returns to its original site, the historic furnace on Murano island (starting April 20, 2024), and to Tesa 99 at the Arsenale Nord (beginning April 18). The title draws inspiration from cinema and showcases 30 pieces by artists who have worked with Adriano Berengo, such as Monica Bonvicini, Tony Cragg, and Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg. Notable installations by Koen Vanmechelen and Sabine Wiedenhofer can be seen at the Arsenale. Adriano Berengo founded Fondazione Berengo in 2014 after recognizing the significance of glass craftsmanship upon returning to Venice from America, aiming to merge Murano glass traditions with contemporary art. The inaugural Glasstress took place in 2009 as an official Collateral Event of the Venice Biennale.
