Glass and Painting Dialogue in Mestre Exhibition
The Centro Culturale Candiani in Mestre hosts 'Attorno al vetro e il suo riflesso nella pittura', an exhibition exploring the relationship between glass and painting. Curated by Chiara Squarcina and conceived by Gabriella Belli, director of the Musei Civici di Venezia, the show juxtaposes thirty paintings with over one hundred glass works. It traces the evolution of glass from mere still-life prop to central subject, spanning Baroque, Impressionism, Symbolism, and Expressionism. Artists include Christian Berentz, Cristoforo Munari, and Giorgio Morandi, whose dusty bottles are contrasted with opaque lattimo pieces by VeArt/Mario Ticcò. A video installation by Margherita Moscardini depicts a glass dump near Istanbul, evoking Marcel Duchamp's 'The Large Glass'. The exhibition also references Giorgione's lost 'San Giorgio', where the saint's face was reflected in mirror, shield, and water, highlighting glass as a tool for metapainting.
