Givenchy collaborates with artist Ewan Macfarlane for AW21 collection
During Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022, Givenchy presented its Spring-Summer collection in a live show under new creative director Matthew M. Williams (since June 2020). Williams announced a collaboration with multimedia artist Ewan Macfarlane, who customized mannequins for the Fall-Winter 2021 collection. Macfarlane, holding a BA from Central Saint Martins (2010), created humanoid sculptural installations featuring figures crouching, climbing, lying, or leaning, dressed in Givenchy apparel. The works explore self-expression and the human desire for meaning, echoing Williams's focus on 'humanity in luxury.' Williams previously collaborated with artist Chito for the pre-collection AW22, which featured airbrush graphics on garments. The collaboration with Macfarlane includes various display modes—pedestals, chairs, ladders, mirrored metal poles—presenting looks from multiple viewpoints. Macfarlane described the compositions as 'a conversation about contemplation and self-discovery.' The collection launches in selected stores.
