Giuseppina Giordano's COROLLA: Wearable Sculptures for COVID-19

artist · 2026-04-27

Milan-based artist Giuseppina Giordano (born 1987, originally from Mazara del Vallo) launched "COROLLA Aspettando la Primavera, Uniti ai tempi di COVID-19," a project of wearable sculptures that transform wearers into buds surrounded by petals while isolating them from contagion. The project emerged after Giordano's planned trip to Japan was canceled due to the pandemic; she was in Florence when Italy's first outbreaks occurred and was asked to return to her family in Sicily, where she underwent precautionary quarantine. The sculptures embody the concept of "insieme" (together), emphasizing interdependence. Giordano had previously participated in Biennolo in 2019, where she exhibited a separation wall inspired by the US-Mexico border, made of dried flowers. Her practice focuses on relationships and kindness. The project is available for purchase via crowdfunding at Produzioni dal Basso.
