Giuseppe Spagnulo and Raffaele Quida in Dialogue at Matera's Palazzo Lanfranchi
The exhibition 'Perimetro del sensibile' at the church annexed to Palazzo Lanfranchi in Matera brings together works by Giuseppe Spagnulo (1936–2016) and Raffaele Quida (b. 1968), curated by Giacomo Zaza. Despite their generational distance, both artists explore the measurement of space—as physical and mental locus—and the transformation of plastic matter, even in two-dimensional works. Spagnulo's drawings scan the church's altars with geometries perpetually reaching toward an impossible stability. Quida's works measure passing time; his display becomes austere even when working with granite slabs on which he traces imprints, successful attempts toward an essential language. That language dialogues with the signs carved into Spagnulo's small bronzes, which complete the exhibition with an aura of elusive mystery.
