Giuseppe Penone's Major Exhibition 'Thoughts in the Roots' Opens at Serpentine Galleries

At the Serpentine Galleries in London, Giuseppe Penone showcases 'Thoughts in the Roots,' an extensive exhibition that encapsulates his artistic journey from 1969 to the present. This display includes both new and previously unseen works in the UK, extending into The Royal Parks. Penone, born in 1947 in Garessio, Italy, is associated with the Arte Povera movement, alongside contemporaries like Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jannis Kounellis, and Mario Merz, utilizing natural materials such as wood, stone, and metal to examine the bond between humanity and nature. The exhibition features sculptures like 'Idee di pietra (Ideas of Stone)' (2010–2024) and 'Albero folgorato (Thunderstruck Tree)' (2012). Running until 7 September 2025, it follows his earlier involvement in the Garden Marathon at Serpentine in 2011.
