artist · 2026-05-04

Giuseppe Penone's monumental sculpture 'Sorgente di Luce' has been installed at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The work, the largest ever created by the artist, was produced at the Fonderia d'Arte Massimo Del Chiaro in Pietrasanta, a foundry that has collaborated with Penone on all his major bronze works, including 'Foglie di Pietra' displayed in Rome at Piazza Goldoni in front of Palazzo Fendi. The sculpture features three bronze trees supporting a stainless steel tree divided into twelve hollow sections that appear suspended. Each section is illuminated with LED lights and lined with 24-karat gold leaf that reflects the light. The twelve stainless steel trunk sections are connected to the bronze trees by sixty-four branches. Approximately 300 lost-wax bronze castings were required to produce all components. The sculpture measures 28.5 meters in height, 7.4 meters in width, and 5.95 meters in depth, with a total weight of 15.2 tons.
