Giuseppe Mulas's Erotic Vitalism at Galleria In Arco, Turin

Galleria In Arco in Turin presents 'All the stars of your night,' a solo exhibition by Sardinian painter Giuseppe Mulas (born 1995, Alghero). The show explores erotic vitalism and the body as a vehicle for universal meanings through a symbolic, archaic pictorial language. Mulas's chromatic power recalls ancient sacred icons, with gold grounds hidden beneath layers of blue and violet, revealed only where metal tips scratch the canvas like nocturnal light. The body saturates and measures the pictorial space, germinating with spontaneous, primitive attitude. Ceramics, a new medium for Mulas resulting from a residency at the historic Gatti workshop in Faenza, inhabit the gallery in a symbiosis of human and vegetal forms. 'Mother' (2022), his first ceramic work, depicts a banana bunch with its floral apex, embodying a material symbiosis of masculine and feminine. Vegetal and sidereal elements traverse figuration history from Byzantine mosaics to Gauguin and Rousseau. The exhibition's time is that of family constellations, childhood's weight on adulthood ('Swinging Childhood,' 2022; 'Soul Water,' 2022), and the body navigating biographical mutations. Painting itself is conceived as an erotic body, an urgent human need to find oneself in the other, in the proximity between individuality and plurality.
