Giuseppe Gabellone's 1993 Video 'Km 2,6' and Photographs at GAM Torino

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The GAM in Turin continues its series of video art acquisitions with a solo show by Giuseppe Gabellone (born 1973, Brindisi). The exhibition centers on his 1993 video 'Km 2,6', created while he was a student at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna. The 30-minute work documents him wrapping objects, rooms, surfaces, trees, and a gate in his family home in Puglia with packing tape—a performative act that challenges traditional sculpture by merging video and action. Curator Elena Volpato describes the tape as a metaphor for magnetic tape, linking the 2.6 kilometers of tape to the duration of the action. The show also includes eight digital prints from the 2009 series 'Senza titolo', which explore photography's static nature by depicting wind as a sculptural tool, creating infinite regressions of images of sculptures of landscapes. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, which helped acquire the works.
