Giuseppe Gabellone and Diego Perrone's GRASSO Magazine at GAM Torino
Giuseppe Gabellone and Diego Perrone, two Italian artists who met in Alberto Garutti's class in Bologna nearly thirty years ago, have created GRASSO, an oversized art magazine that challenges conventional publishing. The project, conceived as a single large sheet, was named by Perrone for its 'fat' physical presence. Seven numbered editions are on display for the first time at GAM – Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino until March 16. The magazine is self-produced except for its first issue, funded by a collector, and the seventh, supported by GAM and Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT. Each issue explores different themes and styles—illustration, photography, advertising—with a critical stance toward the art world. The seventh issue, 'Amedeo Special,' is dedicated to Turin and inspired by a 1940s cocktail created by barman Amedeo Gandiglio at Chatam, discovered through journalist Corrado Beldì. The cocktail was reimagined by head bartender Marco Torre of Bar Cavour, who made it transparent with a mint circle. The artists plan twelve issues total and seek institutional partnerships to ease financial burdens.
