Giuseppe De Mattia Wins Open Call Inspired by Raphael's Madonna di Foligno
At the Museo Diocesano di Foligno, the exhibition titled 'La Madonna di Foligno, il meteorite e il punctum' showcases the works of eighteen artists chosen through an open call. Curated by Marta Silvi, the exhibition offers new interpretations of Raphael's Madonna di Foligno, highlighting Roland Barthes' idea of punctum. Giuseppe De Mattia (Bari, 1980) won the open call with his piece 'Fatterelli / Il vassoio d’argento di Andrea,' which engages the audience as active participants and treats art as an object of popular reverence; this work has been acquired by the Comune di Foligno. Giovanni Kronenberg (Milan, 1974) received a special mention for his untitled piece and will design the Palio for the upcoming Giostra della Quintana in September. Curator Silvi also invited Nicola Samorì (Forlì, 1977) to present a solo exhibition, 'Dei Santi e del Fuoco,' at Palazzo Trinci, featuring two pieces that challenge Raphael's iconography. The jury comprised Cecilia Casorati, Emanuele De Donno, Pierluigi Metelli, Nicola Samorì, and Marta Silvi.
