Giuseppe Colombo's Homage to Caravaggio and Cézanne at Galleria Forni

Galleria Forni in Bologna presents 'Ogni immagine è illuminata', a solo show by Italian painter Giuseppe Colombo, curated by Marco Di Capua. The exhibition features around twenty works, including paintings and drawings, exploring landscape, portrait, and nude themes. Colombo, born in Modica in 1971, openly acknowledges his debt to past masters such as Caravaggio, Balthus, Cézanne, and Piero Guccione. A key influence is Caravaggio's 'Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista' in Malta, from which Colombo derived eight pastel drawings and a lithograph, shown in Modica in 2022. The show also highlights Colombo's dialogue with Guccione, evident in works like 'La casa tra i mandorli' and 'Il carrubo e la fornace' (2023). Colombo deliberately obstructs the view in his landscapes—with flowering branches, thick trunks, or a vase in 'Finestra dello studio' (2020)—to differentiate himself from Guccione's open skies and seas, while channeling Cézanne and Balthus. The exhibition coincides with Bologna's Art City event.
