Giuseppe Appella curates catalogue raisonné of Antonietta Raphaël's sculptures

Giuseppe Appella has edited the general catalogue of Antonietta Raphaël's sculptures, published by Allemandi. The volume, resulting from four years of philological research, includes detailed entries for about 250 sculptures, with bibliography and exhibition histories. It clarifies Raphaël's biography, asserting she was a born sculptor, not a painter who turned to sculpture as legend suggests. The catalogue also examines her relationships with Mario Mafai and the Roman School circle. Appella, who met Raphaël as a student, emphasizes the importance of direct engagement with artworks. He is now working on catalogues for Achille Perilli and Guido Strazza.
