Giulio Bizzarri retrospective at Reggio Emilia's Musei Civici

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Three years after his death, Reggio Emilia celebrates Giulio Bizzarri (1947–2020), known as Biz7+++, with a comprehensive exhibition at the Musei Civici. The show, organized by friends and family, is divided into sections from A to Z and includes a book-catalogue created with students from ISIA Urbino. Bizzarri, a self-taught intellectual who defied categorization, was influenced by Duchamp and the Surrealists. He worked across photography, collage, graphic design, and publishing, founding the magazine Merci. The exhibition reconstructs his studio and the ABC of his thought. It also highlights UDP (Università del Progetto), founded in 1989 with Giordano Gasparini and Paolo Bettini, linked to the Gruppo 63 of Corrado Costa and supported by mayor Renzo Bonazzi. Through UDP, Bizzarri won an award for a surreal Bayer aspirin campaign. He collaborated with artists like Luigi Ghirri, Franco Guerzoni, and Ermanno Cavazzoni, under the supervision of Rosanna Chiessi, who brought Fluxus artists to Reggio Emilia. For her Pari&Dispari editions, he created logos and graphics. He also worked for Team/Italia and created posters for Bologna Sogna. The exhibition runs at the Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia.
