Giuliana Pala's debut poetry collection 'Lunari' explores lunar landscapes and doubt

publication · 2026-04-26

Giuliana Pala, born in Oristano in 1997, has published her first poetry collection 'Lunari' (ExCogita, 2025). The book evolved from her winning 2022 Pordenonelegge 'Esordi' prize for the chapbook 'Lunario'. Pala, who earned a master's in Italian literature from the University of Bologna and worked as an assistant at the University of Göttingen, is a founding member of Lo Spazio Letterario. The collection features four photographs of S'archittu, a rock arch on Sardinia's west coast, which inspired the book's imagery. Pala cites Henry James, Cees Noteboom, and Rosmarie Waldrop as influences. The final section, 'Somnium', borrows its title from Johannes Kepler's early sci-fi work. Pala currently lives in Bologna.
