Giuliana Benassi: A Curator's Unconventional Path

Giuliana Benassi, an Italian curator, has developed a nomadic practice centered on site-specific works in non-conventional spaces. Her project 'There Is No Place Like Home', launched in 2014, stages exhibitions in different locations for short durations, open 24 hours, activating spaces and inviting artists to respond to the poetry of place. Benassi's trajectory began with studies in art history at Urbino and Pisa, focusing on modern and medieval art, before shifting to contemporary art in Rome in 2010. Her curatorial approach emphasizes listening to artists and fostering dialogue between art, space, and audience. Projects have unfolded in Rome, Venice, Turin, London, Abruzzo, Cluj, and Hong Kong, collaborating with independent entities like Limone, artq13, and Post ex. In 2021-2022, in Rome's Via del Mandrione, she organized an exhibition in a former Chinotto Neri factory and boxing gym, featuring forty artists with site-specific works. Another project, 'Post-Turismo', in collaboration with Post ex, took place in three B&Bs in central Rome, addressing the pandemic through works in spaces of absence.
