Giulia Poppi's Fluorescent 'Boccacce' Spreads Across Fermo's Historic Sites

In Fermo, Italy, a diffuse exhibition of fluorescent artworks by Giulia Poppi, titled 'Boccacce', opened on July 30 and runs until September 15, 2026. Curated by Matilde Galletti, the show unfolds across three historic locations in the city center: the Giardinetto della Cassa di Risparmio di Fermo (Corso Cavour 17), Torre Matteucci (Corso Cavour 2), and the ancient Piccole Cisterne Romane (Largo Temistocle Calzecchi Onesti). Each site-specific installation is designed in dialogue with its architectural context. In the Giardinetto, suspended sculptures and luminous elements evoke festive remnants and entomological presences. At Torre Matteucci, an unexpected 'protuberance' emerges from the highest window, playfully mocking. In the Roman cisterns, a fluorescent work creates a dreamlike atmosphere, contrasting massive archaeological stone with artificial neon light. Poppi's practice, previously shown at the Quadriennale di Roma, Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, and MAMbo, continues to explore sculpture as a mutable body with an ever-changing identity. This project integrates her work into Fermo's urban fabric, offering an itinerary blending play and spatial reinterpretation.
