Giulia Manfredi's Alchemical Garden Exhibition Opens in Rome
Giulia Manfredi's exhibition, titled 'Il Giardino dei fuggitivi', is currently on display at Gaggenau DesignElementi in Rome. The exhibit draws inspiration from a garden where thirteen fugitives from Pompeii found sanctuary. It delves into themes of circular time and perpetual motion, showcasing items such as labyrinthine garden models, upside-down deceased bonsai, mycelium spores, and 'Sacrarium', which symbolizes smoke and sky. A dynamic piece, 'White Matter', features a marble block with fungus cut by lasers. Curator Sabino Maria Frassà likens mycelia to the connections found in white matter. 'As above, so beyond' presents two deceased bonsai submerged in a chemical solution to promote crystal formation, while 'Solve et coagula' includes fossilized ivy adorned with crystal blooms, alluding to alchemical traditions.
