The Verdon region dominates with three entries: Lac de Sainte-Croix (2nd, 4.8/5, 4,004 reviews), Lac d'Allos (5th, 4.8/5, 606 reviews), and Lac de Serre-Ponçon (9th, 4.7/5, 2,176 reviews). A volcanic surprise takes third place: Lac Pavin in Puy-de-Dôme (4.8/5, 2,238 reviews), a 7,000-year-old crater lake that is France's youngest and a meromictic lake studied by volcanologists worldwide.
