Gisella Borioli Named New President of Milano MuseoCity

institutional · 2026-04-27

Gisella Borioli has been appointed president of MuseoCity, the non-profit association founded in 2016 by Maria Grazia Mazzocchi to promote Milan's museum heritage. Borioli, a journalist and art director, succeeds Mazzocchi and will lead over fifty member institutions. The association organizes the Milano MuseoCity festival, which since 2017 has animated Milan's cultural calendar with events, exhibitions, and workshops, and since 2022 has also involved Bergamo and Brescia. Borioli studied visual arts under Giancarlo Iliprandi in Milan and new media at UCLA in Los Angeles, later teaching at the Accademia di Brera. She began her career at architecture and design magazine L'Ottagono, then moved to Condé Nast under Flavio Lucchini, her life and work partner. She founded and directs the Superstudio Group, known for merging fashion, design, and art. In 2014, Milan awarded her the Ambrogino d'oro, and in 2016 she was featured in the exhibition W Women in Italian Design at the Triennale di Milano. Borioli stated she will bring energy and passion to increase the network's prestige, knowledge, and quality, aiming to carry forward Mazzocchi's vision and experiment with new ways to bring beauty to people of all ages and backgrounds.
