Gisèle Pelicot reveals new love at Hay Festival
At the Hay Festival in Wales on Saturday, Gisèle Pelicot, a 73-year-old who survived France's most significant rape trial, shared her story. She has rediscovered love with Jean-Loup Agopian. For over ten years, her former husband, Dominique Pelicot, drugged and raped her, allowing at least 70 men to assault her. By choosing to reveal her identity, Pelicot ignited worldwide discussions on feminism. During her talk, she emphasized that shame should rest with the abusers, not the victims, and she had doubted she could ever trust a man again. Interviewed by Baroness Helena Kennedy about her memoir, A Hymn to Life, she also commended her daughter Caroline Darian's advocacy group, M'endors pas, which addresses drug-facilitated sexual assault, and expressed hope for gender harmony through early education.
