Girlguiding unveils first uniform redesign in 30 years with Hemingway Design

British youth organization Girlguiding has launched its first uniform overhaul in three decades, created with London studio Hemingway Design. The collection comprises 30 garments and 15 accessories across four age groups: Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. Rather than a rigid outfit, members need only wear a top from the new range to be in uniform, pairing it with their own clothing. The redesign was informed by consultations with 55,000 girls and women, who co-designed alongside the studio. Features include secret pockets in leggings and shorts, and badge sashes that double as cross-body bags. Color schemes reflect each group's history—Brownies retain brown and yellow hues. The previous uniform was designed in 1990 by Jeff Banks. Research by Girlguiding found 93% of members aged 6–16 feel most comfortable when they can choose their attire, and 47% feel most confident doing so. The launch comes shortly before September 6, 2026, when transgender girls and women will be forced to leave the organization following a 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling on biological sex. Hemingway Design previously created the 100th anniversary logo for Dreamland Margate and collaborated with James Shaw on a Traid charity shop interior.
