Gipi and Luigi Critone Release Graphic Novel 'Aldobrando'
Gianni Pacinotti, known as Gipi, has released the graphic novel 'Aldobrando' in Italy, co-illustrated with Luigi Critone. The book, originally published in France in 2020, is set in a medieval-inspired world that Gipi previously created for his role-playing card game 'Bruti'. Gipi initially began drawing the book himself but later handed the visual work to Critone, a Lucanian artist based in Paris. Critone, known for his medieval-themed adaptations of 'Je, François Villon', brings precise and effective graphic storytelling, enhanced by colorists Francesco Daniele and Claudia Palescandolo. The story follows Aldobrando, a naive and frail boy thrust into a hostile world, in a bildungsroman where his innocence teaches others. The narrative blends realistic, grim elements with a satisfying, partly unexpected happy ending. The book is published by Coconino Press Fandango, 204 pages, €24, ISBN 9788876185540.
