Giovanni Segantini Retrospective Opens at Bassano del Grappa After Decade-Long Absence

A retrospective dedicated to Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899) will be showcased at the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa, commencing on October 25 and curated by Niccolò d’Agati. This exhibition will display approximately one hundred pieces sourced from prominent European collections, such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Rijksmuseum, highlighting Segantini’s evolution from his early Scapigliatura phase to his Symbolist Alpine scenes. Collaborating with the University of Milano-Bicocca, scientific studies uncovered concealed artworks beneath 'Ave Maria a trasbordo' and 'Ritorno dal bosco'. This initiative also involves the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz and Galleria Civica G. Segantini in Arco, contributing to the Cultural Olympiad for Milano Cortina 2026. A catalogue featuring recent research by Dario Cimorelli Editore will be available, with plans for a significant exhibition in 2028 to celebrate the museum's bicentennial.
