Giovanni Pintori retrospective at m.a.x. museo in Chiasso
The m.a.x. museo in Chiasso, Switzerland, presents a major retrospective on Giovanni Pintori (1912-1999), one of Italy's most influential graphic designers. The exhibition, open from October 7 to February 23, traces Pintori's career through over 150 works, including poster sketches, drafts, drawings, watercolors, and wooden perpetual motion constructions. Pintori worked for thirty years at Olivetti, becoming head of its Technical Advertising Office in 1940 and later Art Director. He collaborated with Adriano Olivetti and contemporaries like Costantino Nivola, Carlo Scarpa, Gae Aulenti, and Eugenio Tavolara. His works were featured in MoMA's 1952 exhibition "Olivetti: Design in Industry" and exhibited at the Louvre in 1955. He won the Palma d'Oro in 1950, joined AGI in 1953 (later becoming president), and after leaving Olivetti worked for Pirelli, Gabbianelli, Ambrosetti, Parchi Liguria, and Merzario. The exhibition is curated by Chiara Gatti (director of MAN Nuoro) and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini (director of m.a.x.), with loans from the Civic Museums of Monza, the Fondazione Archivio storico Olivetti, the Fondazione Adriano Olivetti, and private collections.
