Giovanni Morbin's 'Weigh a Moment' at Vienna's Dopust Festival

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

At the Dopust festival in Vienna, which took place recently, Italian artist Giovanni Morbin, who hails from Valdagno and was born in 1956, presented his work titled 'Weigh a moment' at Galerie Michaela Stock. This event, organized by Open days of Performance Split and PAS Performance Art Studies, explores masculinity and the cultural ideas surrounding what it means to be male. To keep his identity hidden, Morbin wore a dark suit and tie along with a weightlifter's belt. He interacted with attendees by literally lifting them, playing on the meanings of 'weigh' and 'wait' for an ambiguous length of time. This humorous performance critiques conventional masculinity through the contrast of formal wear and playful strength. Other participating artists included Suchart Wannaset, Sandro Đukić & Marko Marković, and several others.
