Giovanni Coda on gender violence trilogy finale 'La sposa nel vento'

other · 2026-04-27

Giovanni Coda, a 58-year-old filmmaker, photographer, and writer from Cagliari, has completed the final chapter of his gender violence trilogy, 'La sposa nel vento'. The film follows 'Il rosa nudo' (about Pierre Seel) and 'Bullied to death' (on homophobic bullying), returning to Italian and Sardinian language scripts. It addresses violence against women through a choral narrative featuring performances by a group of women artists, blending documentary and experimental cinema. The script references historical figures like Antonia Mesina (a Sardinian woman murdered in 1935 for resisting sexual assault), Tina Modotti, Frida Kahlo, and Francesca Woodman. Production faced two rejections from Sardinia's cultural commission for being deemed irrelevant to regional identity, plus pandemic delays. It was ultimately produced with support from Rome's Movie Factory and Francesco Montini. The cast includes Serra Yilmaz as narrator and Lorenzo Balducci as Antonio Julio Mella. Music is by Andrea Andrillo, Cosimo Morleo, Max Fuschetto, Arnaldo Pontis, Matteo Casula, and Marco Rosano; costumes by Antonio Marras. Choreography by Paolo Mohovich. Locations include Orgosolo, Ulassai, San Leonardo di Siete Fuentes, Riola, Ingurtosu, Cagliari, and Quartu Sant'Elena. Distribution is expected in late autumn 2022.
