Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa Appointed Director of Palazzo Madama in Turin

Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa has been named the new director of Palazzo Madama – Museo Civico d’Arte Antica in Turin, succeeding Guido Curto. The appointment was announced by the Board of Directors of Fondazione Torino Musei. Villa, born in Turin in 1971, was selected from over 300 applicants. He is an associate professor of Modern Art History at the University of Bergamo and teaches Museology and Museography at the University of Udine. He serves on the Superior Council for Cultural Heritage and Landscape of the Ministry of Culture and is honorary director of the Civic Museums of Vicenza. Villa has curated major exhibitions at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, including shows on Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Lorenzo Lotto, Tintoretto, and Titian, as well as projects in Brussels, Moscow, Paris, St. Petersburg, and Tokyo. He will oversee Palazzo Madama's collections spanning medieval, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque art, including Antonello da Messina's "Ritratto d'uomo" and decorative arts. Fondazione Torino Musei President Maurizio Cibrario expressed satisfaction, citing Villa's knowledge, vision, and leadership. A presentation event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29 at 11 a.m. in the Gran Salone dei ricevimenti of Palazzo Madama.
