Giovanni Bellini's Pietà to Undergo Restoration in Venice
The Pietà, created by Giovanni Bellini (Venice, 1427/1430–1516), is currently housed at the Museo della Città di Rimini but will soon be transported to the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro in Venice for conservation work, supported by Fondazione Venetian Heritage Onlus. This artwork, dated approximately 1470–75, features Christ’s body surrounded by four angels and was originally located in the Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini. It is widely believed that Carlo Malatesta, rather than Sigismondo, commissioned the piece. Restoration efforts by Cbc-Conservazione Beni Culturali, which have already begun preliminary diagnostics, are anticipated to finish in October, after which the painting will be included in a dossier exhibition in Venice. Michele Lari, Rimini's culture assessor, remarked that this initiative strengthens the city’s museum heritage and partnerships with significant organizations.
