Giovanni Anselmo retrospective opens at MAXXI Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The MAXXI Museum in Rome presents 'Giovanni Anselmo. Oltre l’orizzonte', a major exhibition dedicated to the Arte Povera pioneer (1934–2023). Curated by Gloria Moure in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, where it debuted in February 2024, the show runs until October 6, 2024. It gathers iconic works from the 1960s to the 2000s, including installations, photographs, and sculptures that explore natural phenomena, energy, time, and gravity. The exhibition is conceived as a seamless journey through Anselmo's career, with pieces like 'Particolare di infinito', 'Direzione', and 'Torsione' displayed in the museum's Galleria 5. MAXXI director Francesco Stocchi describes it as complementary to the previous blockbuster 'Ambienti 1956–2010', focusing on the object within architecture. The show was designed by the artist before his death, offering a complete vision of his legacy.
