Giovanni Anselmo Retrospective Opens at Guggenheim Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has unveiled a major retrospective honoring Giovanni Anselmo (1934–2023), an influential artist in the Arte Povera movement. The exhibition, named "Giovanni Anselmo. Oltre l’orizzonte" (Beyond the Horizon), was curated by Gloria Moure with Anselmo’s input before his death in December 2023. It features over forty works that explore the boundary between what we can see and what we can’t, emphasizing personal experience rather than just observation. Anselmo, who earned the Golden Lion for Painting at the 1990 Venice Biennale, evolved from painting to sculpture and installations. The show begins with his 1965 self-portrait on Stromboli volcano. It runs until May 19 at Frank Gehry's museum.
