Giotto-Attributed Stained Glass Unveiled at Rome's Fiumicino Airport
Three stained glass panels attributed to Giotto, from Florence's Basilica of Santa Croce, are now on public display for the first time at Rome's Fiumicino Airport Terminal 1, Piazza del Molo A. The works depict the prophet Aaron and two deacons. They were loaned by the Fondo Edifici di Culto of the Ministry of the Interior to mark the 50th anniversary of Aeroporti di Roma, which operates both Fiumicino and Ciampino airports. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated the government is committed to bringing art to the people and enhancing national heritage. This is not the first valuable artwork shown at Fiumicino; in 2023, Gian Lorenzo Bernini's bust of Salvator Mundi was displayed in Terminal 1 from April to September before returning to the Basilica of San Sebastiano fuori le mura. Additionally, for the anniversary, the Teatro Patologico Onlus performed 'Commedia Divina', inspired by Dante's masterpiece, written by founder Dario D'Ambrosi, aiming to make art more inclusive. Aeroporti di Roma President Vincenzo Nunziata reaffirmed the company's commitment to innovation and supporting future generations.
