Giorgione's Elusive Genius Explored at Royal Academy of Arts
The Royal Academy of Arts in London showcases 'In the Age of Giorgione', which comprises fifty pieces divided into four categories: portraits, landscapes, devotional works, and allegorical portraits. This exhibition delves into the life of Giorgione (circa 1478 – 1510), a pivotal figure of the Renaissance, about whom little is known. Known as Giorgio Barbarelli da Castelfranco, he flourished in Venice during the early 1500s, drawing inspiration from Dürer and Leonardo. Featured in the portrait section are 'Ritratto Terris' (1506?) and Dürer's 'Portrait of Burkhard von Speyer' (1506). The landscape section includes 'Il Tramonto' (circa 1502-5), while religious works showcase Titian's 'Christ and the Adulteress' (1508-10). The exhibition will conclude on June 5, 2016.
