Giorgio Muratore Study Center Launches in Rome
On October 18, 2017, the Faculty of Architecture at Sapienza University of Rome will host a study day to honor Giorgio Muratore, the architect, intellectual, and professor who died in March 2017. Organized by his daughter Oliva Muratore, the event features colleagues, friends, and students discussing four themes: publishing, teaching, preservation of 20th-century architecture, and Italian architecture. The day will also mark the official launch of the Centro Studi Giorgio Muratore, an architecture observatory based at via Tevere 20 in Rome. The center will house Muratore's archive and library, and aims to continue his critical and free spirit through interactive spaces, research collaborations, and potential scholarships. Muratore (1946-2017) studied under Bruno Zevi, collaborated with Ludovico Quaroni, Paolo Portoghesi, and Tomàs Maldonado, and taught at Sapienza. He founded the Clear publishing house and the Archiwatch blog.
