Giorgio Moroder and Quiet Ensemble Illuminate Rome's Gazometro with Nebula

The seventh edition of the Videocittà festival in Rome opens with Nebula, a monumental immersive installation by the Italian duo Quiet Ensemble (Fabio di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli) in collaboration with legendary producer and DJ Giorgio Moroder. The work transforms the iconic Gazometro industrial structure into a giant immersive artwork featuring 400,000 lights across 3,000 square meters and 75 meters in height, accompanied by an original Moroder soundtrack. The installation recreates a journey from Earth's crust to outer space, enveloping viewers in a dense constellation. It will be inaugurated on July 5, 2024 at 7:30 PM, with a public dialogue between the artists and Moroder moderated by Nicola Ballario, and will remain open nightly from 10 PM to 3 AM throughout the festival (July 5-7). The festival, conceived by Francesco Rutelli with creative direction by Francesco Dobrovich, explores innovative audiovisual and digital codes. Quiet Ensemble, active since 2009, previously created site-specific works for Videocittà including Luna Somnium (2022) inspired by Kepler, and Mater Terrae (2023) by Sila Sveta with music by Mace. The artists describe Nebula as inspired by the connection between microcosm and macrocosm, filling the empty space of the Gazometro with a suspended portion of the firmament.
