Giorgio Armani dedicates exhibition to Peter Lindbergh at Armani/Silos in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Giorgio Armani has opened an exhibition dedicated to the late photographer Peter Lindbergh at his Armani/Silos space in Milan. Titled 'Heimat. A sense of belonging', the show explores Lindbergh's career through portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and fashion images. Lindbergh was born in Leszno, Poland in 1944 and died in Paris in 2019. He grew up in West Germany, living in Duisburg, Berlin, and Krefeld, before moving to Paris in the late 1970s. The exhibition is divided into three sections: 'The Naked Truth' featuring psychological portraits; 'Heimat', a German term related to home and identity; and 'The Modern Heroin', presenting unadorned images. The large-format black-and-white photographs emphasize deep blacks reminiscent of German Expressionist cinema. Armani highlighted their shared aesthetic values since the 1980s, particularly an appreciation for truth and authenticity. Lindbergh was the only photographer to shoot three editions of the Pirelli Calendar. In 2017, he stated the importance of reminding people of a different, more authentic beauty not manipulated by advertising. The exhibition includes unpublished shots and offers insight into Lindbergh's genre-crossing work.
