Giorgetto Giugiaro's Artistic Roots Explored in Turin Exhibition
The Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile di Torino presents a new exhibition examining the relationship between cars and art through the figure of Giorgetto Giugiaro, the legendary car designer who began as an aspiring painter. The show, on view until February 26, traces Giugiaro's artistic journey from his childhood in Garessio, where his father Mario, a church fresco painter, introduced him to painting. Curated by Giosuè Boetto Cohen, Giuliano Molineri, and Rodolfo Gaffino Rossi, the exhibition features documents, sketches, watercolors, and caricatures that reveal Giugiaro's lifelong passion for art. Giugiaro, a six-time Compasso d'Oro winner with seven honorary degrees, was named the most important Car Designer of the 20th century in 1999. He is renowned for iconic vehicles including the 1974 Volkswagen Golf, the Ferrari GG50, the Alfa Brera, the Bugatti luxury sedan, and the DeLorean immortalized in the film Back to the Future.
