Gioia Mori, leading Tamara de Lempicka scholar, dies in Rome at 78

On January 20, 2025, Gioia Mori, a prominent Italian art historian and curator, passed away in Rome. Renowned for her expertise on Tamara de Lempicka, she published the first monograph on the artist in 1994 and organized Lempicka's inaugural American exhibition, which is currently displayed at the De Young Museum and will move to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in spring 2025. Mori uncovered discrepancies in Lempicka's birth date and conducted extensive research on various artists, including studies on Art Deco in Italy and women artists of the Renaissance. She worked with institutions such as Palazzo Reale and led Art e Dossier from 1996 to 2007, while also serving as editor-in-chief of Artonline starting in 2000.
