Gio Tirotto's 208 Floating Light Installation Illuminates Rimini's Ponte di Tiberio
For the 2020 holiday season, the Italian designer Gio Tirotto created '208', a light installation on the water at the Ponte di Tiberio in Rimini's Borgo San Giuliano. Commissioned by the Assessorato alla Cultura del Comune di Rimini in collaboration with Laboratorio Aperto, as part of the project Welcome! – Rimini Creativity and Design Mont, the work consists of 208 floating buoys in precarious balance, symbolizing resilience, fragility, and hope for a united world beyond conflicts. Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, the buoys absorb sunlight during the day and release glows at dusk, creating a signaling body in continuous motion. Tirotto, based in Emilia Romagna, previously designed the interiors of Carlo & Camilla – in Duomo in Milan for chef Carlo Cracco in July 2019. The installation was visible from December 8, 2020.
