Gio Ponti's Milan Building Gets €15M Revamp with Europe's Tallest Kinetic Wall

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

The former Palazzo per le Assicurazioni e le Riassicurazioni Savoia in Milan, the last realized project by Gio Ponti (1971), is undergoing a €15 million redevelopment. Owned by Fondo Drive managed by DeA Capital Real Estate Sgr, the project named San Vigilio Uno is led by studio Il Prisma. The renovation preserves Ponti's signature diamond-pattern ceramic cladding and natural aluminum window frames while adding a new panoramic office floor and a kinetic glass wall—35 meters high, the tallest in Europe—inspired by Ponti's tiles. The building's ground floor will become a multifunctional showcase, and the internal park will be restored. The energy model targets LEED Platinum certification. Sebastiano Pasculli and Stefano Carone of Il Prisma emphasize human-centered design.
