Gio Ponti ceramics exhibition at MIC Faenza explores his design legacy
The MIC (Museo Internazionale della Ceramica) in Faenza is hosting 'Gio Ponti. Ceramiche 1922 – 1967', a major exhibition curated by Stefania Cretella, running until October 13. The show features over 200 works including ceramics, glass, furniture, and drawings, tracing Ponti's career from his early collaboration with Richard-Ginori (1921-1933) as artistic director, where he modernized the manufacturer's historical repertoire toward the emerging déco style. After 1933, Ponti continued sporadic creative projects with the company while expanding into decorative arts and design. The exhibition concludes with a section on his legacy, highlighting influences on designers like Alessandro Mendini and Ettore Sottsass, as well as contemporary artists POL Polloniato, Diego Cibelli, Bertozzi&Casoni, and Andrea Salvatori. Ponti, known for founding the magazines Domus and Stile, is celebrated for blending classical tradition with modern taste, embodying the Made in Italy ethos.
