Gino Valle's Architecture as Continuous Experimentation in Udine
A new exhibition at Casa Cavazzini in Udine celebrates the work of architect Gino Valle (1923–2003) on the centenary of his birth. Titled 'La professione come sperimentazione continua' (The Profession as Continuous Experimentation), the show is curated by Francesca Albani and Franz Graf in collaboration with the Archivio Studio Valle di Udine. It focuses on the studio's activity from the 1950s to the early 1980s, presenting drawings, prints, photos, and maquettes. The exhibition highlights Valle's research-driven approach and his impact on cities including Udine, Milan, Venice, New York, and Paris. Twelve key projects from the 1960s onward are featured, such as the Monumento alla Resistenza in Udine, the Giudecca residences in Venice, and the Banca Commerciale Italiana in New York. The display also explores modularity, exemplified by the Scuola Valdadige in San Quirino (Pordenone) and the Edificio per 100 alloggi IACP in Udine. The venue, Casa Cavazzini, was restored by architect Gae Aulenti and serves as Udine's contemporary art museum.
