Gino Severini Thematic Exhibition at Fondazione Magnani Rocca

exhibition · 2026-05-05

A monographic exhibition dedicated to Gino Severini (Cortona, 1883 – Paris, 1966) has opened at Fondazione Magnani Rocca in Mamiano di Traversetolo, near Parma. Curated by Daniela Fonti and Stefano Roffi, the show presents about 100 works—including 25 previously unpublished or never exhibited in Italy—from public and private collections. The display is organized thematically rather than chronologically, highlighting recurring subjects such as portraits, Italian masks, dance, landscape, and still life. A section is devoted to Severini's large-scale mural decoration, both secular and religious. The exhibition is conceived as an intentional diptych with last year's show on Giacomo Balla, Severini's teacher who introduced him to Divisionism and compositional purity. Two works from the permanent collection anchor the show: the late 'Natura morta con strumenti musicali' and the 1915 'Danseuse Articulée', a movable Futurist piece that delighted the artist. The exhibition runs until July 3, 2016, and is accompanied by a scholarly catalog.
