Gino de Dominicis's Mysterious Chest Opened After 46 Years at Galleria L'Attico
On October 21, at the opening of Galleria L'Attico's new exhibition season in Rome, founder Fabio Sargentini orchestrated a singular event: the opening of a chest by Gino de Dominicis that had remained sealed for 46 years. The chest, along with a hand grenade by Pino Pascali, were both hollow objects containing secret messages—the grenade held an enigmatic message, the chest something mysterious. Both were gifts from the artists: Pascali's to Anna Paparatti, de Dominicis's to Fabiana Sargentini. A video published by the gallery shows the chest being opened before a large audience, finally revealing its secret. After the crowd dispersed, Sargentini paid personal homage to his friend Gino's genius. The gallery, soon to celebrate 60 years of activity, had supported and exhibited both masters in the past.
