Gina Osterloh's First Museum Survey at Columbus Museum of Art Examines Identity and Perception
Gina Osterloh's inaugural major museum exhibition, titled Mirror Shadow Shape, is currently on display at the Columbus Museum of Art, under the curation of Anna Lee. This showcase features 40 pieces created between 2005 and 2020, where Osterloh delves into the interactions between the body and its surroundings through various mediums, including drawing, film, performance, and photography. Her earlier works, such as Dots Front Misfire (2008) and Mute Rash (2008), present dreamlike visuals, while her later collections, Drawings for the Camera (2014-2017) and Zones (2017-present), transition to monochromatic themes. The exhibition also highlights the film Press and Outline (2014) and includes pieces acquired by the Chicago Museum for the Wayne P. Lawson Prize, which Osterloh received in 2021. The exhibit is open until October 8, 2023, addressing issues of identity and anti-Asian hate crimes.
