Gilda Bojardi: The force behind Milan Design Week's Fuorisalone
Gilda Bojardi, editor of Interni since 1994, has been a pivotal figure in shaping Milan Design Week. She coined the term 'Fuorisalone' in the 1990s, inspired by Off-Broadway, to describe the constellation of design events outside the official Salone del Mobile. Since 1990 she has published a guide to these events, and since 1998 she has organized her own installations under the Interni banner. This year's showcase, Materiae, features collaborations between Audi and Zaha Hadid Architects, as well as Bjarke Ingels Group, Snøhetta, and Michele de Lucchi. Bojardi's career began after law school, working at design studio, then at IN: Argomenti e immagini di Design, followed by a year in Mexico City. She joined Interni after it was acquired by Electa. She has fostered friendships with designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, and Vico Magistretti. In 2007, Milan awarded her the Ambrogino d'Oro. Interni's headquarters are in the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Mondadori building in Segrate. The magazine now works with New York, London, and Paris, and in January 2025 organized an event at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. The April issue of Interni exceeds 430 pages.
