Gilane Tawadros Appointed Director of Whitechapel Gallery

Gilane Tawadros has been appointed as the new director of the Whitechapel Gallery in London, taking over from Iwona Blazwick, who held the position for more than 20 years. Tawadros previously founded and led the Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva) and created the Stuart Hall Foundation following Hall's passing in 2014. Since 2009, she has been at the helm of DACS. Her curatorial accomplishments include the 2017 'Shooting Performance' exhibition at the David Roberts Art Foundation, as well as co-curating 'Transmission Interrupted' in 2009 and 'Alien Nation' in 2006 at the ICA in London. She has also organized solo shows for artists such as Omer Fast and Yinka Shonibare. Last year, she released a compilation of essays on various artists, showcasing her extensive experience in leadership and curation.
